DESI IS BACK ALONG WITH PASTOR ELMER BROWN AND PURE GOSPEL
Former USN President Dessalines (Desi) Weaver is back full time with USN. We also have a new ally who is really an ally from way back – Pastor Elmer Brown of the Pure Gospel Church of God In Christ, Cincinnati, Ohio, who has decided to extend Pure Gospel to the USN mission.
As many of you will recall, Desi Weaver was the main force behind getting the USN off the ground with the assistance of Karen Thimmes and his wife Marilyn in February 2013. However, back in 1993, Pastor Brown took his entire ministry team to the Ross Correctional Institution – a move that was orchestrated by Timothy Newell who is now at Grafton.
With the permission of then RCI deputy warden Larry Brown, Pastor Brown took nearly 100 women into the prison where the services had to be moved to the gym to accommodate almost 500 inmates. Pure Gospel is primarily responsible for this issue of The Sizzler with its generous donation. Pastor Brown recently told his congregation that Pure Gospel is partnering with the Universal Support Network to assist in the cause for prison and parole reform. It is hopeful that this reunion will help prisoners get closer to the door to begin life anew.
